The Somerset County Blind Center Inc. is an outgrowth of the workshop for the blind & visually impaired which began in Somerset in January 1995. This workshop was started in cooperation with the Westmoreland County Blind Association & was projected to be an independent entity since its inception. In 1996 the advisory Committee voted to incorporate as an independent agency. Thus, on January 6th 1997, out incorporation documents were filed creating SCBCI. Since that time we have received our 501(c)(3) status The SCBCI’s first board of directors was formed July 12th 1997. Since then the board has taken control of the corporation, electing officers & planning for he initiation & improvement of the services for the blind & visually impaired of Somerset County. Until the establishment of the Blind Center in 1997 there was no facility for the blind in Somerset County, Therefore, we directed our efforts to the establishment of a permanent center for the provision of these much needed services . In the years since we have made considerable progress toward our goal of comprehensive services for the blind & visually impaired of Somerset County |
